Start ShoppingIt's Friday morning and after three nites in my old stomping grounds in Stamford, Ct. I'm ready to fly south to Miami for Saturday night's Oklahoma-Miami nationally televised college football showdown. I've scheduled my flight so I can be in my hotel to watch the Decade of Smackdown Celebration.
Here's some BBQ'ed random thoughts.
The Legend's Roundtable taping Wednesday night went super! Joey Styles proved to be a great host. JJ Dillon was awesome telling some amazing stories of managing the Horsemen and several others including the Mongolian Stomper. Jimmy Garvin and Michael Hayes had some cool Freebird stories and some of them might actually make air. The wrestling manager show is highlighted by several interesting stories going all the way back to the Bobby Davis days of managing Nature Boy Buddy Rogers and Slve Girl Moolah. We all also came up with our own Mt. Rushmore of wrestling managers.
The culture of wrestling in the south elicited some emotional debate and make no mistake there was a diference in southern wrestling and, say, wrestling in the old WWWF.
JBL was unavailable to attend the 10 year SD show but he's doing great in business and life in general. John is playing golf this weekend at Pebble Beach...not bad for a country boy from West Texas.
John's wife Merideth Whitney is featured in a great op-ed piece in Friday's Wall Street Journal.
It looks as if Vickie Guerrero may be returning to Smackdown as a manager. More on that Friday night on Smackdown.
Lots of talk at the Roundtable about the amazing Bobby Heenan who was virtually a lock for best manager ever by our panel. He got my vote.
Gary Hart was talked about as being one of the best and most underrated managers ever. An "evil genius."
One of my personal favorites was General Scandor Akbar. He was my first traveling partner and taught me so much about the biz. Ak had his series of matches with the legendary Bruno Sammartino taken away due to Stan Hansen breaking Bruno's neck way back in the day.
Does anyone remember Ma Bass...another great manager? Pensacola's Michael Hayes certainly did.
Hell in a Cell this Sunday will be an adventure with three main events inside the Cell. I'm intriged as to how they will all have their own identity and look forward to the PPV.
Plus, we finally get to see Morrison vs. Ziggler which has show stealing potential.
I have some Hell in a Cell predictions on my Smackdown blog at www.wwe.com.
We thank you for your business in our on line store and at JR's Family BBQ in Norman.
OU 24 Miami 21....no wagering please.
See you in Newark Sunday on pay per view.
BOOMER SOONER!

Our economy is bond with embroilment. Economist figured out that the main reason why people are leading to loan, is because of financial difficulties. The celebrity rags have been buzzing about the Nicholas Cage financial problems. It appears that his former business manager neglected to pay any of the taxes Cage would have owed, which was his charge, and mismanaged his investments and properties, to the point that Nicholas Cage broke from paying the IRS and creditors might be a possibility, or at least that's what is alleged by the lawsuit Cage filed. If this guy tried to pull a Bernie Madoff, then he not only deserves to pay Cage back every penny, but do some time in the clink. Seeing the Nicholas Cage financial problems story unfold makes one think about doing some credit repair for one's self.
Hey JR,
I am so exited about the mangers show on the legends of Wrestling. Here is my list of my top 5 Mangers of all Time
1.Bobby Hehan
2. Freddy Blassie(Babe Ruth of Mangers)
3. JJ Dillion( mangers of stable Wrestlers 4 Horsmen)
4.Jimmy Hart
5.Slick(first African Amercian Manger in the wwe)
How bout them CANES!?
Where did Abdullah Faruoq aka The Grand Wizard come out in the manager discussion? I remember him more as Abdullah Farouq when he managed The Shiek in Detroit. What about Eddie Creachman?
Sounds like Ak had the same kind of luck Jake Roberts had getting a run with the Ultimate Warrior. I had watched "Pick your Poison DVD and I cant believe he had to get Warriors "permission" for a program with him!!! I knew the guy was an ego maniac but come on.... I was also wondering why no matches with Savage were on that dvd as those two had a good run going. I have to question some of the match selections on that DVD, but it is a pretty good dvd nonetheless.
Still got some sauce, but jerky is running low, gonna have to get some more soon. Thanks for the stories.
I'd go so far to say that Heenan was also the best color guy ever as well. The WWE was never as entertaining as it was when Heenan was on the mic adding his unique and hilarious one-liners.
Good morning JR! Another great blog! REALLY looking forward to the new roundtables... glad to see Gary Hart and Skandaar Akbar are getting some much deserved attention!
One quick question: I just purchased my first bottle of your Original BBQ sauce, and of course, was blown away with the flavor! We don't get anything like that here in NY! Have you ever considered any kind of forum for your site where fans can exchange their favorite JR's BBQ sause recipes? It is getting too cold here in the northeast to "Q", but I am definitely going to be purchasing more products and would love some great ideas! (Aside form those provided in your cookbook, which hopefully "Mrs. Clauss" will pick up for Christmas!)
love the site! Thanks for the stories!
