The 22nd Survivor Series is in the history books and it was a solid show emanating from Boston in front of over 15,000 fans who sold out the Garden. It was a big night for homegrown John Cena, but perhaps an even bigger night for Friday Night SmackDown's Edge, who left Beantown with his 6th World Title.
Jeff Hardy's bad luck continues in such distasteful ways as he was apparently bludgeoned in the stairwell of his Boston hotel late Saturday night. I did not like reporting on this matter or do I enjoy talking about it here, but the point is that Jeff had more momentum than any one on the WWE roster when fate dealt him another bad hand this past weekend.
The good news for Jeff Hardy fans is that he can redeem himself starting on Friday Night SmackDown this week.
The new WWE Champion who truly and so coincidentally was in the right place at the right time Sunday night in Boston, will kick off Friday Night SmackDown this week on MyNetworkTV, so don't tune in late. The world will get, hopefully, some sort of explanation that actually makes sense and that we can perhaps believe from the new champ; and maybe even from his (still) wife and SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero.
Much like Tony Soprano and his embattled wife Carmella did over the years, perhaps Edge and Vickie reconciled and none of us were made privy to the development. Who in the heck knows except the controversial couple?
One still has to wonder what Edge loves most, The WWE Title, his wife or himself.
I will tip my black hat to the G.M. as she puts together a superb wrestling concept Friday night that will see Triple H, Jeff Hardy and Vladimir Kozlov all in competitive matches. I think fans of in-ring wrestling will enjoy that aspect of Friday Night SmackDown a great deal. I know that these bouts were fun to call in Albany, New York on Tuesday night and each bout had significance, a reason for taking place and a heightened sense of urgency.
If you are keeping score at home, count the number of times that Edge and Vickie call each other "Baby" on Friday night, but please no drinking games on this topic. As my Mama always said, "Moderation son, moderation."

good ole' jrmcneely....I think Edge is what the WWE has been needing for years. It took a while to get him at the " superstar" status as it should, but now we get to reap the rewards of Edges hard work and sacrifice. I was lucky enough to sit ringside of the last Vengence pay-per-view, when Edge battled R.V.D . for the tittle. Edge didnt win that night but he showed me what i already knew , that he was the biggest thing going in the WWE. He has paid his dues, as should any wrestler that is in the main event spot. I am a HHH fan through and through, but i know that we need more then just one man holding the company up. John Cena is a class act, and so are a few others, but Edge is something special. He does'nt need to be the baby face that is going to save the world, because we have to many of them. He has what it takes to be a great antagonist and still make you want to watch every move he makes. Not to many people have been able to do that and i have much respect for him for that. HHH, on the other hand is a guy that can make you hate him on friday and love him on saturday, and that my friend is greatness. Alot of people have said that since he is married to the family that they gave him the top spot for so many years, but if you look back to when he was champ for so long, that there wasnt anyone else that could hold the company up and put so many butts in the seats. The man is in it for the company and not just himself. We need more people like that. I know John Cena , HBK, Undertaker, and a few others also have the same ethics, but alot of the new guys dont seem to be worried if the companys revenue is doing better then there own. But thats just my opion.
Hey JR,
Keep up the great work!
I read your comments about 60 minute matches and how they never happen anymore. I remember maybe about 1 and a half to 2 years ago there was like a 55 minute match or so on Raw. I think it was HBK and Cena. It was great, because no one knew it was coming. And it was a great match that seemed to hold the audience's attention. Do you recall that match now that I mention it?
Oh, I just found a blog about it. It was something like April 23, 2007. And I was right - it was Cena and HBK. Both men did a great job. I remember watching it and after the 30 min. mark I started shouting to my friends that I think they are going to go an hour and how that never happens anymore! I gained a ton of respect for Cena that night. He had proved he could hold his own with HBK for a full hour. I thought it was a pivotol moment in his career. What do you think?

The Undertaker win Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 and go 17-0 at WrestleMania.
THANK you, Mister Ross, truly thank you, for admitting that the Jeff Hardy situation was "distasteful" and that you did not enjoy reporting on it. Certainly, WWE's initial website report on the matter, or rather the lack of vital details, was distasteful indeed, in line with some of the "bad reporting" of various internet journalist sites that you like to point out, or worse. So thank you, truly, for admitting that, in a kayfabe sort of way.
As for Jeff himself, I have full confidence in the man himself. Wether he will be given an ACTUAL chance by WWE, rather than the mere appearance of one as has been the case for some time now, I am much less optimistic. But I would love to be wrong about that.
For the record, I would never "demand" an autograph from you. Autographs are, to my mind, overrated anyway. Though McDonalds is often underrated, I can understand not wanting to eat there too often.
I would partially agree with bull12/Adam, and partially not. I do agree that there are too many bodybuilders with no personality to speak of in wrestling today. Truer words are rarely spoken. But I would take it a step further. A bodybuilder is boring and predictable, a true *athlete* is not. And while I would certainly pick an athlete WITH a personality over an athlete without one, I would say that athleticicism is more important than personality. With bodybuilding a distant third behind either one.
I miss wrestling from the 80s. I don't think that it will ever be like that again. I like it better when kafabe was in effect. I think the thing that I miss the most was the diversity of the wrestlers. You had the ultimate heroes, (Hulk Hogan), you had the crazy unpredictables, Bruiser Brody, Randy Savage), You had the fan favorites, (R& R Express, British Bulldogs), you had Giants, (Andre, Big John Studd), you had outsiders, Nikoli Volkoff, Iran Shiek, Nikita and Ivan Koloff), you had possible gay, Adrian Adonis, you had just never ending different personalities like Jake The Snake, Roddy Piper, King Kong Bundy, Rick Rude, Dusy, Flair, and so on and so on, and to tie it all together you had some of the greatest managers of all time.
I like the new guys, I just think that they need characters. They need to be somewhat different. There are way to many body building, normal talking, see them at the gym down the road, everyday people, wrestlers now. Not all of them, but to many of them. It's like they all want to be the cool jock in high school, who likes to talk a lot. I think this all stems from the "DX, NWO" days. The only one who really went his own way was Steve Austin, and guess what people loved it, because it was something different. I just think we need some of the old ideas thrown back in. I would like to here someone else's opinion on this if possible.
Thanks Adam
