Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Thanks for dropping by and paying us a visit. We appreciate all your support especially those that order our products from our on line store.

Big 12 Wrestling tourney hit Norman Saturday. OSU upset Iowa State to win the conference title. Saw a few prospects but no one jumped off the page at me ala an Angle, Lesnar or Swagger.

WWE's Gerald Brisco was in Iowa scouting the Division 3 college wrestling tourney this weekend. Smart, long term planning by WWE to look far and wide for future stars. As I wrote this week, if the independent wrestling scene becomes the primary source for the stars of tomorrow then the business is in trouble. Same theory applies for those brands who are trying to catch a quick fix using older stars as the thrust of their shows. Using bona fide legends to gather viewers to only see the younger guys featured is a viable concept but if the younger wrestlers aren't made to be perceived as special then success will be hard to achieve.

Big, Bedlam hoops game today in Norman as the OU women play the OSU women in a game that is sold out. Might be "black hat worthy" later today. I just hope the officiating isn't as inconsistent as it has been most of the year. Several officials get assignments because of their gender which is obvious by watching them work. The best officials should get the assignments regardless of color or gender.  Pro wrestling referees miss less action than some Big 12 Womens Hoops officials.

Wife Jan tried to buy "Damage" starring Steve Austin this weekend but it apparently isn't out until March 23. One would think that I would have an advance copy to view, review, and push DVD sales wouldn't one? Seriously, we are anxious to see "Damage."

Irony regarding Houston Wrestling....Promoter Paul Boesch died on this date at the age of 76 while Houston native, budding stand up comedian, and the performer formerly known as Brother Love, Bruce Prichard, was born on this date in 1963 according to  wrestling internet data. Bruce went to work with Boesch as a young kid selling programs, etc.  Paul was a good hearted man who did many benevolent works in the Houston community but like many old school wrestlers turned promoters  Mr. Boesch had a healthy ego. Some of the heated conversations between Bill Watts and Paul Boesch when they were business partners in Houston were classics. Those were TWO, healthy egos. Doing commentary with Mr. Boesch wasn't one of my favorite things to do but that doesn't diminish my respect for his civic pride and the fact that he was a wonderful promoter ala Sam Muchnick in St. Louis.  Today's market reps/promoters could learn a great deal from how Boesch and Muchnick promoted their towns.

Enjoyed the fight card Saturday night on Versus featuring WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) as the smaller athletes rarely fail to have fast paced, exciting fights loaded with action. Even though many of the competitors were not household names to casual, MMA fans, the fights were generally compelling and fun to watch. MMA, in general, needs to do a better job of introducing their fighters to the casual fan in hopes that the casual fan will evolve to become a die hard fan via making an emotional attachment to the fighters. Plus, too many TV announcers within MMA assume that most viewers know most of the nuances of the fight game including the most commonly used insider terminology.

Must be something in the water in some parts of the world as in hallucinogenics as I received emails that swore to me that WWE was going "out of business" after WM26 and that TNA was going to dominate WWE in the TV ratings "war" within a matter of weeks. You won't find many of these acts of delirium in the newly, updated Q&A's but there are some classics that I invite you to check out.

I have to see a "wrestling war" to believe it but if that theory does come to fruition then I will be the first to admit mistakenly saying that no such "war" will happen. There is a huge difference in being owned by a media conglomerate such as WCW Monday Nitro being owned by Time Warner and being owned by a private entity that is in the pro wrestling biz. Plus, Spike TV doesn't have the chops right now that TNT had back in the day of Monday Nitro. The lay of the TV landscape is totally different that it was in the mid to late 90's.

With all that said, I wish no ill on any business but my opinion remains the same. All entities should control what they can control and that is their own product. Don't fixate on other businesses especially the one's that are perceived as "competition." Just as in main stream sports, one wants to be in a position to control one's destiny and one does that by getting better every week, improving what one does, offering alternative concepts to their fan base, and not living and dying on every tenth of a rating point on a network that is still way back in the hunt.

Those that are writing us, some of these fell by the wayside too BTW, about what they can't stand on a variety of wrestling TV shows are beating the wrong mule here. Most of those emails from people who obviously have too much free time on their hands have been deleted but you will get the general idea if you check out the Q&A's. I don't want to come off as a tool here but if ANY television show causes one as much consternation as some have written to this site complaining about then for goodness sakes....change the damn channel.

These are pro wrestling, TV shows we are talking about here. Yeah, I love 'em too and have been watching wrestling on TV for 50+ years but give a brother a break! If what you see angers you and causes you mental misery then why watch it.  I don't get it. Can someone clarify my consternation on this seemingly common sense matter?

We have many emailers that are curious to see what kind of match Bret Hart has at WM26 vs. Mr. McMahon. I am extremely anxious to see what I perceive will be Bret's last ever venture into the ring as a competitor. This is a big moment for this fan of the Hitman I can assure you. I don't expect to see any thing resembling a traditional wrestling match but I do expect this encounter to be one of the most dramatic and memorable moments on the PPV and will be a lasting memory of Wrestlemania.  Not knowing what to expect makes the anticipation for this bout even better for me but for those who love to read the "spoilers"  not knowing how this long awaited endeavor will go is driving some nuts.

One thing that I missed Saturday night watching WEC on Versus was that the commercial breaks took away the ability to hear the corner men work with their fighters between rounds. Applicable info should have been factored back into the broadcast either via a recorded, sound byte or the announcers telling us what they heard during the break.

Lots of good feedback from many of you on what I wrote about women's wrestling. Women's wrestling has not been featured on any national brands or even on successful regional companies in recent memory. Will a match involving two females ever headline a major PPV event? I don't think so. This doesn't mean that I don't think that women competing/performing in pro wrestling can't be more viable and contribute to the success of their respective teams. I am a fan of women's athletics/entertainment. It's just the simple fact that, like announcers, women wrestlers are support, role players. I hope that all the women's promotions that are popping up here and there are successful but I do feel that we will be challenged to speak of their relevancy one year from now. I hope that I'm wrong on that assumption, for the record.

Business is good in the on line store and next week I have a meeting with my friends at the Homeland Grocery store family to hopefully become more a part of their plans for "BBQ Season." Our products are selling really well in the four,  Norman, Oklahoma, Homeland stores.

BTW I've been feeling great and I look forward to getting back to ringside sooner than later even if it happens to be for one night only.

Hit the Q&A's, keep your feedback and your orders coming and thanks, again, for paying us a visit.

Boomer Sooner!

Dear JR, All WWE programming begins with a montage of old wrestling footage that progresses through WWE history to current superstars. It's been changing a lot lately, as legends defect to TNA, but the ending is always the same: It ends with you declaring, "The world is watching!" Do you happen to remember at what event you exclaimed, "The world is watching!"? We are just curious! :)

ROH and WWE and  TNA

the  ROH show was a great show from the opening match to the end ***** star's for ROH!

WWE a solid Raw what a build up to WM26 I think  Diva's match was Better then the Knockout match I give that match a ****1/2 star's when diva's come out like that it was solid! I was jump up and down happy as a little kid in a candy store! the rest of raw was good a B+ on Raw!

TNA was bad it NO WAR it a bad bad bad show when your young star's are getting show up by old vet's and the X Div is trash when is TNA going to get a solid bulid up for a PPV because older Vet need to step down and let the  younger guys come up *1/2 star's F+ for TNA Knockout div sucks!

Breckel--

At this point, there aren't a whole lot of match ups that can match the level of that Stratus-James feud, but that was really an exception; a well written, coherent and consistent feud in the WWE, male or female, doesn't happen often. Think of that as the women's version of Austin-Rock.

And with so little time spent on the women's side of the game, it's not likely to happen again anytime soon. But it doesn't have to reach that level to be a compelling series. Giving the women who can go, as oppose to theose who are clearly nothing more than models, some time to develop a feud will benefit the WWE. Contrary to some opinions, such a build will have a chance to influence ratings by pulling in additional women who would have something other than makeup tips to look forward to as their significant others force them to watch the show, possibly even creating new fans.

But what do I know?

Your opinion is as valid as anyone's. My point is still the fact that decision makers position women wrestling in a certain spot which is seemingly, to me, a support role spot. I do think that athletically speaking that the women are under utilized as a whole.

I have to agree with you - not that I do so unwillingly - that a wrestling company that tries to build itself on legends isn't going to be able to stand the test of time - the proof to that for me was in how TNA handled the return of Rob Van Dam - a legend that can move like crazy in the ring.

Did they put him in against a young stallion that could go toe to toe with him for a number of minutes and allow RVD to show what he's got?  Nooooooo - they put him in against Sting, who can barely move these days - so RVD flies in, does his thing for 15 seconds, pins Sting - and then Sting takes a basball bat to him for several minutes.  And this is what I'm supposed to be excited about watching?

I'd be more excited watching RVD take a baseball bat to whoever scripted that crap.  That was the end of me watching TNA's show - at least they had the X-Division match, though they did WCW cut-aways to BS going on in the back - like it's more interesting to watch Sting have an argument with Dixie Carter than it is to watch the best performers they have in the ring.

I HATE wrestling programs that don't care about wrestling - and TNA is going down the WCW road of having no respect for their own wrestlers - the ones that can actually move in a ring.

Kudos to WWE for going out and looking for wrestlers for their wrestling program - what a concept!

I'll be going to the legendary Cow Palace in San Francisco this coming weekend to see the WWE House Show there - I haven't been there since Eddie Guererro won the title - now that was a show!!

Hey J.R.

I get it  your still getting pay from WWE but I'm not and I will say what is on my mind Last weeks raw was Crap when a Pillow fight is the last thing I want to see I get it to when a guest host come on they want the guest to fell special but the DIVA's need to wrestle that what they are getting paid to do I seen great match from the WWE here a list of matches you called

Trish vs Jazz vs Victoria

Beth vs Mickie

Sherri vs Luna

Molly vs Lita

Beth vs Nattie

Luna vs Jackie

Jackie vs Jazz

so  WWE has done a great job before give these women chances I hope they step up again because TNA is droping the ball with the TNA knockouts!

Hey J.R.,

Just wanted to send you a comment in regards to your commentary on the Dirty Dutch Mantell vs Snowman from Mid South. While the match itself wasn't much, your commentary made this a FANTASTIC moment to watch. I found a link to the match from Dutchs blog, and WOW thank you thank you thank you for being the absolute BEST at what you do.

POE1809,

I was thinking the exact same thing regarding women's wrestling:  Trish Stratus and Mickie James.   In my opinion that could have headlined a PPV because for weeks (if not months) it was far and away the most entertaining feud on RAW.   But all the stars were in allignment for that one,  2 smokin' hot gals who could deliver the goods on the mic and in the ring.   That simply doesn't happen very often in the women's division.    Who could you partner Mickie with today to get that kind of program?   Nattie Niedhart maybe?

Breckenridge

I'm afraid this attempt at reigniting the Monday Night Wars is going to be more smoke than fire.

Despite what the TNAbots have been repeating ad nauseum for weeks now, they just don't have the horses yet to put up any real threat to the WWE ratings. They have a slew of good looking ponies, though, and if the game was based entirely on in-ring product, TNA would certainly make an immediate impact, as I think they surpass the WWE in that regard. But there aren't a lot of fans left any longer who are in it for the matches. No, most have been conditioned in the past decade and a half or so to expect essentially a variety show instead of a wrestling show, hence the scourge of Sports Entertainment. I don't think a wrestling heavy show will keep the fans interested at this point, so TNA's strength is actually a weakness on television in 2010. In the end, any competition is good, but just how much competition TNA can provide to the WWE? Not much I'm afraid.

As for women's wrestling being a supporting act, i think it's all in the way it's presented. If it's nothing but scantily clad models hitting each other with pillows in the ring, then that's all it will ever be. A few exceptions would be on the indy circuit, but one WWE feud from a few years ago showed what women's wrestling could become. Mickey James vs Trish Stratus was probably the best built feud in the WWE, male or female. I don't see why it couldn't have headlined a secondary PPV such as Backlash.

Just when I was getting worried that Bret Hart vs McMahon would be nothing more than a side show attraction, you are beginning to convince me otherwise.  When you stated that this will be Brets last time in the ring, it does make sense that Bret would go all out this match - now I'm excited about it.

Did you get some sort of comments or enthusiastic vibe from Bret Hart or McMahon that they would be going all out for this match?

Thanks

Eric

J.R, you are totally right. WWE should be concerned about WWE and TNA should be concerned with TNA. I think it's great to have competition in the wrestling biz, as it is sure to bring out the best in both companies in terms of performance and TV production. What I don't like is the constant chest thumping by TNA from 2 guys that ran a multi million dollar wrestling company (with a f"""n billionaire behind them) into the ground. Now all of a sudden they're starting "The Monday Nite Wars" again? R U kidding me? It's like Hitler and Emperor Hirohito coming back today and attacking France and Pearl Harbor with paper planes and rocks. I have no problem with TNA stepping up their game and expanding the TNA product, in fact I really want to check it out. I have to admit though, it's very disheartening to hear such a ****y  F-U WWE attitude from a company with a bunch of has-beens....sorry, has-been ICONS and never-was WWE midcarders. The fact that they are selling THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN THEIR HISTORY with the in ring return of 2 guys who started wrestling 4 DECADES AGO tells me they are waaaaaaaay over their heads here. Lets be honest here, they didn't need to go head 2 head with WWE on Monday Nites to get attention for their product. They need 2 make their own stars first, not just rely on the ones WWE made 10, 20 and 30 years ago (yes, i know Flair and Sting don't count). They should have run a live show on WED or THURS, built up the product, the performers and the fan base for a few months, push the fact that they are TV-14 to the all important 18-49 demo, THEN GO LIVE ON MONDAYS!! Instead we get Grumpy Old Wrestlers (Flair-Hogan), a fantastic performer who probably wouldn't be recognized outside of the Universal Studios (A.J Styles) ad Mankind......I mean Abyss. I want TNA to succeed, if only to make WWE push back to TV-14 but they seem like they are jumping the gun big time here. I guess we'll see.

Hi, JR. I am glad you are doing alot better... I am glad to hear that... We miss you on Raw... Can't wait to see you back on there... We tried to find the dvd of damage today but we couldn't fine it... The grandkid's are anxious to see Damage... They are anxious to see Steve Austin on Raw March 15th... I hope and pray you are back on raw soon we miss you alot...

I agree that there is a large difference between being owned by a media conglomerate and being a privately held company with a relationship with a small cable channel (albeit part of a larger media conglomerate). And I also agree that the landscape has certainly changed from the mid-nineties when cable channels only had two digits. But I think another part of this picture has shifted too, and that is viewer habits. The television audience is increasingly willing to go to anywhere on the cable dial to see the content they want, and it seems to me that viewers, if they are interested enough in TNA, will be willing to find Spike TV on their televisions and tune in (or DVR) Impact. The thing that is keeping another wrestling war (WWII?) from happening is lack of a compelling product coming from either of the major companies right now. WWE seems to be in the middle of a rebuilding phase, and TNA just doesn't have the momentum yet. Instead of a Lakers vs Celtics type matchup, we viewers are looking at a Clippers Vs Knicks clash. It just isn't as interesting.

By the way, speaking of Wrestling Wars, you should go on Youtube and find the Wrestle War '89 PPV promo. It gave me a nice chuckle!

Boooomer! (Class of '02)

hey J.R. im new here i enjoy your insite on things altough i dont think you give enough credit 2 tna. your a wwe guy till the end so it prolly makes ya a lil byest. first off tna is a good brand. hogan is 1 thing but if it did not stand a chance do u think 4 a min flair would of stepped a foot in there?! hell no. ok do i think tna is making a huge mistake moving 2 monday nights so soon, yes, way 2 soon 4 that. personaly i think they should of went2 friday nights first b4 anything. with RVD comming 2 tna this monday may be the saving grace and help the ratings out alot. but after this monday i dunno. with stone cold hosting the next week tna will be crushed that week 4 sure. but after that lets see if there will b a slow climb or not.
now 4 the womens wrestling, any tna knockout would destroy any wwe diva in a match. face it tna women are not afraid of getting a boot2 the face. tara is 10 times better in tna then she was when in wwe. find me 1 diva that can beat o.d.b in a match. never happen. velvet sky is the girliest knockout in tna but would still destroy a maryice or kelly kelly in under 5 mins with a cold.
ok well thoes were my thoughts
