Busy Wednesday for yours truly with doctor's appointments and more of them tomorrow. Just what I wanted but at least I have OU vs. Texas A&M here in Norman Saturday night.

Here's some BBQ'ed random thoughts....
I have written a blog that you can see at www.wwe.com on the Smackdown page. Short read, hopefully entertaining and costs you nothing to sample.
The gentleman who wrote and displayed the "J.R. is Overrated" sign that was shown on Raw Monday night emailed our Q&A section of the site and I responded to him. You can check out the email and my response in their entirety in the Q&A section. He's from the UK, says he has a Masters Degree, and seemed to be protesting the "Michael Cole backlash" as he put it. I did not know that there was a "Michael Cole backlash" but that may be another case of "there you are" as my Dad used to say.
Hey, the fellow may be right and I might well be overrated. My announcing style isn't for everyone plus after over three decades some folks are simply tired of listening to me. As I pointed out to the "poster guy," not to be confused with the world famous "Sign Guy," Michael Cole and I have differing broadcast styles which doesn't make either of us right or wrong...just different.
The bottom line is that WWE made the decision to move Michael to Raw and me to Smackdown and anyone being angry at Michael Cole for that is simply wrong. I suggest no one be angry at all and to not take the genre so seriously that it adversely affects one's day.
For the record, I don't have a burning desire right now, while addressing my present health issues, to get back on weekly TV whatsoever. I am much more focused on the medical tests that I will undergo tomorrow which are the results of previous tests done a week or so ago. Yes sir, I'm ready for this little journey to end and to be 100% ready to rock....and that will happen.
I'm happy to see that former WWE Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle's legal sagas have ended at least for the time being. I hate to read about anyone that I know having personal issues that are embellished and broadcast throughout the media. I've said it many times, "wrestling romances" rarely work over the long haul and those that do are simply meant to be and are the exception to the rule. Those involved in the one's that l do last are blessed individuals who are able to avoid the egocentric and paranoid fueled pitfalls that plague other couples who are usually in lust and not in love. I hope that Kurt can happily move on in his life in a healthy way.
I'm told that the Undertaker-Jericho main event on Friday Night Smackdown, starring Todd Grisham and Matt Striker, is a dandy. Can't wait to catch it on TV Friday night or over the weekend on DVR.
This Friday, I will be an easy man to find as I will be at JR's Family BBQ in Norman (exit 109 off I-35) from lunch time until ??? with the guys from Houston's 1560 The Game. Dinner Impossible on The Food Network airs Wednesday night at 10/9 central and is replayed a few other times this week. I'll be the "stocky guy" in the black hat making BBQ Sauce.
The WWE Hulk Hogan DVD has some great, old bouts on it including some taped matches from live events that really put in some time. I love the atmosphere of the darkened arena and the focus being on the ring and the performers in the ring and not on fans looking to get their 15 minutes or seconds of fame especially those that would rather watch the 'tron instead of the ring. I know, I'm old school......so what? If you like old school wrestling and seeing some of the business' biggest names from back in the day I think that you will enjoy this DVD. It isn't a "tell all" type DVD but is heavy on classic wrestling bouts from a variety of arenas and TV shoots. Old schoolers might really get a kick out of JR and The King reuniting for some of these bouts that we narrate as opposed to doing "live commentary." King even reveals how Hulk invented a back shaving device that Jerry began utilizing himself. Seeing Hulk with the late, WWE HOF'er Classy Freddie Blassie was a hoot. I never realized Hogan was as hairy as George "The Animal Steele at one point in Hulk's career.
Really good, solid, physical wrestling match Tuesday night on ECW between Christian and William Regal. I was sort of expecting Regal to win the ECW Title but, alas, I was wrong again. Arguably that outcome might have added a different wrinkle to ECW. But there's always next week so stay tuned.
The WWE Hall of Fame class for 2010 seems to be garnering more interest as our email flow gets stronger. Lots of speculation that the "Ultimate Warrior" will be inducted this year. I have no clue but the fact that "Warrior" lives in Phoenix, the site of WM26, being a significant reason as to why makes zero sense to me. Either the man deserves to be introduced or he doesn't no matter his zip code. I personally feel the former Blade Runner is deserving and just because the guy is considered "controversial" should not exclude him from any accolade. Warrior's accomplishments and contributions to the business are what counts and hearing Warrior's acceptance speech live and in person would be classic and likely a "Wrestlemania Moment."
Ted DiBiase and Ron Simmons would be on any personal, short list I were to compile for the 2010 WWE HOF as well.
Rowdy Roddy Piper will no doubt be at the top of his game Monday night in Madison Square Garden when he hosts Monday Night Raw. I know that Hot Rod considers "The Garden" hallowed ground, as most of us veterans do, and who knows how many more times the WWE Hall of Famer will be in such a key role in this arena? I expect all sort of Survivor Series oriented fireworks in NYC Monday evening.
I like Pacquiao in his pugilistic challenge with Cotto Saturday night. However, Manny vs. Mayweather is the fight I want to see.

I'm sure commentating for WWE is right up there with some of the most difficult broadcasting jobs on TV, especially since your position is about much more than calling the plays and reading copy. As a long-time wrestling fan, I do end up getting frustrated with today's commentary in it's lack of concentration on the actual in-ring play-by-play. When I see an exellent exchange of moves go without being commented on by the team, it's definitely annoying since I know you and other students of the game genuinely appreciate the art of good counter-wrestling. Hopefully, the inevitable shifts in business bring things back to an in-ring focus than, say, Michael Cole musing about Thanksgiving during an intense match.

Hey JR I hope you are back on Smackdown soon. My question to you is did you see the David Haye versus Valuev fight last saturday? By the end of next year Haye should have all four heavyweight titles to have stopped the eastern european dominance. American networks will be eating him up for the John Ruiz fight. He's got charisma, can talk and backs up his words. Just what the heavyweight division needs before he probably faces Vitali Klitchsko at Wembley Stadium next summer in a unification clash. To think he had only ever had SIX rounds of heavyweight boxing in his career before giving up seven stones and 11 inches to win the title. THAT is how good he is.

Hello again JR. Warrior in the HOF.... eehhh I just don't know. To me the HOF is about lifetime achievement, Warrior was hot for a few years, and I will admit I was a bit of a fan back then, but he just flaked out way too fast. These days I hear him occasionally on YouTube talking politics and I just want to say Please stop talking! If it were in my hands the short list for the 2010 HOF would include (aside from Bruno and Backlund who've both declined the invite) the other former champs: Ivan Koloff, Stan Staziak, Randy Savage, Antonio Inoki, as well as Arn Anderson, Rick Rude, Don Owen (the man provided the WWE with so many of its stars), as well as The Freebirds and/or The Road Warriors, and yes, DiBiase and Simmons.
"Hairy as George the Animal".... now that puts a question in my head: Who would you say were the hairiest wrestlers ever? If the list doesn't include Miguel Perez Jr and Dutch Mantell then you need to look at more wrestling tapes.
I don't know why it is, but in wrestling it's easier to complain about those you don't like then it is to praise those you do. The guy that said you were overrated should have done that.
I've been a fan for over 20 years, and you're not overrated.
Hi JR, Justin from New Zealand here. I have been a WWE fan and a pro wrestling fan since WWE superstars was first screened here around the time of Wrestlemania 4. I flew over to Wrestlemania 5 and again for Wrestlemania 25.
I would like to first wish you all the best for your health and a fast recovery. I watch raw, sd and ecw most weeks hhere and must say I miss the team of yourself and the King.
As a long time fan I must say the emergence of the young Harts, Dolph Ziggler, Shamus etc is great for the industry and the potential future of the business. I enjoy reading your blog, enjoy your 'take' on whats happening in the industry at present and again wish you all the best!
