Thursday Update...

Hope every one is well...really busy, important week so free time is challenging. Didn't want anyone to think that I had forgotten my friends or was "slacking." On line biz has been great and I hope that we can keep it rolling.

Still working on new changes to the site. Will have them done this weekend for sure. In the contact us facet of the site please know that this is for business contacts only and not for wrestling questions, etc. I had never been able to review them until last nite and I had 5,000 unread emails. The vast majority were wrestling questions that should have gone on the Q&A section. Please do me a favor and only use Contact Us if you have a BBQ business question. Thanks.

Today is Ric Flair's birthday and we send Naitch our utmost best wishes. We exchanged text messages this morning and it meant alot to each of us. Ric was in OK spirits. I love the guy and for him to publicly say that I was the "sound track" to his career at the WWE HOF function in Orlando was awesome. I'll write more about some Flair memories this weekend.

I got to answer a few  Q&A's so check them out.

Just got word that I have airline issues. Not cool.

Drinking a great deal..too much stress...Diet Lime Green Tea Snapple.

Don't see how some folks think that UFC President Dana White isn't doing anything short of a tremendous job running UFC. I have become a HUGE fan of the MMA genre and have gotten to know many key individuals within that industry. Their best days are yet to come.

Is Arn Anderson Hall of Fame worthy in the future? Hell, yeah. Double A is one of the most underrated wrestlers that I ever had the privilege of working with over the years. AA doesn't need the Horsemen to be considered for any honor. We even worked together in Mid South.

Yes, some NFL team will take a chance on Tim Tebow at QB but likely not in round one of the NFL Draft of which I am going to watch from start to finish even if I do have to gaze at Mel Kiper's hair.

I really enjoyed the innovation, feeling of newness, and potential of NXT. Anxious to follow it weekly. Love the combo of reality TV and wrestling. I'm very interested to see NXT evolve and loved the commentary.

That's it for now but check back often and follow my travails on Twitter. I'm in the midst of an interesting week.

Thanks for your biz and support.

Boomer Sooner!

Watched NXT, it I have to admit that I was a bit angry at Michael Cole for slamming the Indies and Japan, etc.

Which is great, because it's been so long since I've felt anything besides "meh, wrestling is on" watching a WWE program that I didn't think it was possibly anymore. Jericho and the Dragon was a perfect main event for the first show, and really had some nice story telling which has been absent in WWE matches for a while, in my humble opinion. There was even a moment were I actual thought Danielson was going to hit the winner's side of the pay window, which is great.

AA was always my favorite wrestler when I was growing up. It didn't matter who he was in the ring with or who he was cutting a promo on, he added a sense of believability that is hard to come by. Of course sticking him with Tully created one of the finest tag teams I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing, but his seemingly never ending run as the TV champ always promised a great match. Even when the TV title was defended on a house show, which never made a lick of sense, but I digress. Anyone questioning AA's worthiness for the HOF clearly didn't followed his career.

Anyway, Tim Tebow would fit in in Cleveland, since they have an entire roster of guys who can't play their positions.

Hi J.R.,

Happy to see you give a shout out to Arn Anderson.   Arn was one of those guys who made everthing look so easy that I don't think most fans realize how good he was.   If anyone has WWE 24/7 Classics check out the NWA tv shows which are about mid-way through 1987 right now, some of Arn's best stuff.

It's so easy to forget how good Arn's DDT was, because he's best remembered for his spinebuster.   And he always made Dusty Rhodes look like Jack Brisco which, let's face it, could not have been an easy task.   His promo's were always great to boot.

Plus he didn't look like some pretty boy body builder who spent half his day in the tanning booth, and the other half of his day "manscaping" his body hair.   He just looked like an real honest to goodness tough SOB who would sooner fight you than talk to you.   Man I miss the old days.

Take care J.R.,

Breckenridge

I enjoyed NXT as well - not perfect, but the rough edges were interesting, not boring.  How cool was it that Bryan Daniels was able to wrestle Chris Jericho his first night out?  That rocked!

Jericho really is the MVP of WWE these days as he has been at other points in time.  He can be brilliant with a mic and he truly can "go" in a wrestling ring as well as any other human being alive and was a perfect person to take on a guy that wanted to show up the WWE - which is a good thing for him to want to do at this point in time.

Michael Cole "made" Josh M for fans of the indies by taking the heel role.  Josh got a chance to push back and did so well and it made the announcing interesting and added to the whole thing - good going.

I read an interesting column online where the writer was wondering when Vince might want to pull things back to a more regular WWE-like show - if Vince is smart, he'll appreciate what happened Tuesday night and let it go there - that's what's gonna help him build new stars for the future.

I'll definitely be watching again this coming week.

Hello JR,

I've been a reader of your blog for quite some time now, and must say that no matter what subject matter is on hand---I always read to the end---in a world of information overload--that is a feat!

I wanted to get your opinion on something.  Do you think that wrestling will ever see glory days again?  I mean, I know as far as revenue Mr. Mchmahon and shareholders are doing just fine, but honestly, the product has become worse and worse as the weeks, months, and years go by.

My opinion is that this is due to the highly scripted nature of what is being shown on television now.  It seems that there is no more room being left creatively for a Rock, Austin, or hell, even a Hogan type persona to emerge.  A true free spirit.

Right now, we are watching a show where the most entertaining catch phrase available is "I'm the Miz....and I'm AWESOME!" not that great---but the best the WWE has going right now.

I know wrestling isn't all about catch phrases and personas, it's also about story telling - but I just feel like that is dying away---back in 2001/2002 when this was starting, I would always hear that wrestling is a cyclical business---that it will get better in time, but that time has not come in my opinion.

Another thing that annoys me a bit is the fact that professional wrestlers don't get paid what they deserve.  These guys are on the road so much, there is no off season, yet  the best guys are getting paid 3 or 4 million a year (product sales included) --JR, you could pull that in 6 months if you had your site optimized properly for BBQ sauce.  Don't you think that's a bit of an atrocity?

Considering the amount of revenue that WWE pulls it doesn't surprise me that more higher caliber entertainers are attracted to a pro wrestling career.  The guys that stick it out are continously brainwashed to think that they are doing this for honor, not money, the fans--etc.  Why can't they do it for both?  I know Bret was trying to push for a wrestlers union--but that's obviously not happening.

I know that this post is a bit all over the place, but it's just that I've had all of these things boiling in my head the past couple of years and I'm finally saying something about it to someone that matters--you.

So, all in all, do you think we will ever see a creative golden age of wrestling again?  This batch of superstars--Cena/Batista--with all due respect--were nowhere close to their predecessors---do you think room will be made for the magic to happen again?

Thank you so much for entertaining this post JR.

I too enjoyed NXT. I'm looking forward to the progression of this reality based show. Was actually impressed with the announcing of Josh Mattews and (I can't believe I'm saying this) Micheal Cole. Cole actually showed some personality and passion for the product...maybe grasshopper is finally getting it. He needs to bring some of that passion to Raw. Hopefully this show leads into more reality based storylines on Raw and Smackdown. Looking forward to Mania...Who's gonna still the show? Jericho and Edge, HBK and Taker, Batista and Cena, or a talent stacked MITB? Anyway you look at it it should be one hell of a ppv. Hope your there to call the action. Take Care
