No one will ever accuse me of being a skilled writer nor should they. With that said, let me clarify what I wrote earlier about Starrcade.
Starrcade was created in 1983. Wrestlemania was created in 1985. Now that we have that established allow me to interpret my original message indicating that Starrcade was the NWA’s answer to the WWE’s Wrestlemania. Obviously I did not explain this well. JCP often talked after the 1st ‘Mania that the NWA already had “their Mania” in Starrcade. After the success of the 1st ‘Mania, an increased focused was put on Starrcade to be as big as Wrestlemania. McMahon hit gold with his PPV “big event” concept and Jim Crockett Promotions wanted to follow suit and essentially mortgaged their future to some degree to do so.
Writing quickly in an airport on a Blacberry takes skills I don’t have...obviously. Nonetheless, I did not mean to infer that Starrcade derived from Wrestlemania but in reality the PPV component and the success that ‘Mania #1 garnered was a catalyst in Starrcade becoming the Crockett/NWA’s overwhelming top priority. I was actually involved in conversations where some in JCP thought that the WWE “stole” the Starrcade concept to create Wrestlemania. Now that’s an interesting take on the matter.
So even though Starrcade came before Wrestlemania, the focus and emphasis put into Starrcade including moving it out of Greensboro came from the national success of Wrestlemania.
Sorry for any confusion but in my desire to post a new, Blackberry written blog I did not proof my own verbiage which is my bad.
Thanks.

I think it was pretty clear what you meant. I think there's just a lot of your 'fans' who think it makes them superior to correct you.

Hi, Jim. When I was at the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute (1986-1988) I overheard your voice on TV.
Congratulations on your very successful career. To be successful is hard work. I know you earned it!

Santino Marella is a Keeper & with this new angle with Batista I think this would be a perfect time to capitlize on some nostagala, you said in a previous Blog that you'd like to See the Honky Tonk Man appear & do something with Santino I think it'd be a perfect opportunity to introduce a Bodyguard for Santino & Beth Phoenix and if creative wanted to capitlize on this they could do an angle where Santino is searching for a Bodyguard and interviewing them until he finds the perfect one! I'd like to see more Marella, this could lead to one time appearences by former WWE stars Like Kamala, The Warlord & Barbarian & other "Old School" Monsters and maybe even the much rumored Sid Vicious he and Batista could be a good match up!
That makes a lot of sense, JR. Thanks for clarifying. WCW, though I was never its biggest fan, had some great PPV names. Starrcade, Bash at the Beach (Summerslam is better but BatB is not a bad-sounding PPV name), Halloween Havoc (it always made me wish in the early '90s that the WWE had a late October PPV of its own).
Of course it also had its share of mixed PPV names. I wasn't ever crazy about "SuperBrawl"... it sounded more like a hefty female doing some Sunday shopping =p
Which Starrcade do you think was the strongest, as a whole?
