Random thoughts while preparing for a busy, college football week in Oklahoma with the Sooners hosting nationally ranked TCU on Fox Sports at 6 p,m, central time.

The final Friday Night Smackdown airs Friday night on the CW before moving next week to MyNetworkTV with that first show to be taped this Tuesday in Titletown.... Green Bay, Wisconsin. This will be a loaded show that is resembling a PPV-like broadcast as it relates to star power from all 3 WWE brands being represented on the program in a variety of Title bouts.

The WWE debuts in Innsbruck, Austria Friday night which many of us old timers remember being the site of a Winter Olympic games back in the day.

The WWE's upcoming event in Paris, France sold out well in advance. Years ago I would have never thought of American wrestling being a hit in Paris unless you would have said Paris, Texas.

The #1 contender for the WWE Title, Jeff Hardy, received 6 stitches in Barcelona, Spain but will miss zero ring time and this is not considered by any means a serious injury nor will it affect Jeff's in ring schedule.  This sort of thing, while unpleasant, goes with the territory.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson getting top billing over such stars as Billy Crystal, Julie Andrews, and Ashley Judd in the upcoming film "Tooth Fairy" is a huge accomplishment when one stops and thinks about it.

I read where Ric Flair "lost" a deal with Coca Cola but I am under the impression that "Naitch" was only in casual talks about he possibility of working with Coke down the road in the Southeast and this was never a done deal.

As discussed here when we previewed the Mr. Perfect DVD several weeks ago, this one is a keeper and is selling big time. I continue to strongly recommend that wrestling  fans, especially old school fans, check this one out. Curt was a great showman but his in ring wrestling skills were truly outstanding especially before he began having back issues. Curt was another second generation, success story.

Yours truly has written the foreword for an upcoming Mike Chapman authored book on the incredible life of Dan Hodge. Hodge represented the USA in two Olympics, '52 and '56, never lost a match in college (46-0 w/ 36 pins) and was never taken down from a standing position while in college while winning 3 National Championships. Hodge also won the National Golden Gloves Boxing Title as a heavyweight with virtually no boxing training before turning to pro wrestling where he dominated the NWA Junior Heavyweight division for years. If Dan was in his prime today he would be "the man" in the 205 pound division of MMA without question. The book will be out in about two months.

From what I understand, and I could be wrong, the upcoming December 22 WWE event in Toronto will be a TV shoot. Whether it is or not, it is always great to return to TO for any reason. Tickets for this one will go fast one has to assume. Not a bad "stocking stuffer" idea for the holidays. I hope it is a broadcast event as TO is one of my favorite cities.

I spoke with ESPN Friday morning about the possibility of doing a piece for them during the week of the Oklahoma-Texas college football season prior to the Red River Shootout on Saturday October 11. This is not a done deal but looks promising. This potential feature would air on College Football Today, one of my favorite shows, if it can be finalized.

The locals here in Norman are abuzz after USC's upset loss to Oregon State Thursday night and the Sooners have a legit chance of becoming the #1 ranked team in college football IF they can defeat the undefeated and nationally ranked (23) Texas Christian University Horned Frogs Saturday night.  TCU is a talented, well coached bunch and put one of only two losses on the Sooners at home under the 10 year, Bob Stoops coached era at OU.

JR's Beef Jerky scored a huge hit Thursday at a major, convenience store convention in OKC getting a ton of orders that should see the product in many convenience stores throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas soon. We will keep you apprised as this was a huge break through for our Beef Jerky biz. Many of you have ordered Jerky from this site and for that we thank you.

I am going to do my best to answer several more of your inquiries on our Q&A section of the site over the next few days.

Thanks for visiting our on-line store, eating at J.R.'s Family BBQ locations and for supporting our website. We are grateful.

What a great bio you did on Danny Hodge, I also have been a close friend for some 25 years, when I told him my grandson was wrestling at Rolla MO, high school a few years ago he came and spent 3 days at our ranch and moved all the furniture out of the living room and worked with all 3 of them, only time Babs and I had with him was when he stopped to eat. Trev's last year was a 18 and 3 record as a 10th grader, and this year he looks even better.

Danny gave him a years worth of training in 3 LONG days, one of the true gentlemen of our business, and I agree anyone who knows him, will be better for it. Delores his lovely wife, justs sits back and watches Danny as he works with the kids, he is truely one of a kind

Also Babs and I really enjoyed dinner with you on our way to CAC in June, them fried dill pickels are habit forming.

Be well

Hey JR!  I know you get tons of wrestling questions, so I thought I'd ask you a college football question.  After the upsets this past weekend, what would be your Top 10 rankings this coming week?  Do you think "my" PSU Nittany Lions have a shot at the National Championship?  If so, who is going to be their opposition?

A big hello from Manhattan (home of the MSG arena). I don't normally write comments, as I'm always busy (I know you can relate), but something popped into my head today. I was wondering how did you came up with owning a restaurant. I think it would be an excellent read to see a whole blog talking about how you came up with the idea for a restaurant. Your always busy, but I think it could make for one of the best blog entries on your site.

My sincere regards,

Carlos

Hi J.R.  My name is Linda and I'm in Salt Lake City, UT.  Like and idiot I moved here from S. E. Kansas.  I've always watched SD every week.  Now that it's moving to MyNetworkTV I won't be able to watch it anymore.  We don't have a local station in our area.  How are we suppose to watch it now?   Any chance WWE.com would show it online like ECW?  Who would I need to contact to whine about this and how would I get a hold of them?

By the way, it was nice getting to listen to you an extra night this week.  No reflection on Todd. My love and prayers go out to him and his family.

Love and prayers to you and the mrs.,

Linda

You doing a piece for ESPN would be te awesomeness! Good luck!

Of course the WWE sold out in Paris. The WWE is greatest thing ever so who wouldn't want to be a part of it? Only an idiot.

Yay for beef jerky sales!

Oh and did you know that Mick Foley's debut on TNA falls on the same night as the MyNetworkTV premier of WM24? Interesting......I have been watching TNA as well as Raw, SD, and ECW and let me just say, the audience trips me out. Last night there were 'USA' chants in the audience during Kurt Angle's segment with Jeff Jared. There were also major boos for Hulk Hogan during Sting's segment.

You know, I was wondering about Eddie Guerro's brother. I had no idea he had another brother...and looks just like him. O.O Any chance he might debut in the WWE sometime soon?
