Music has become such a large part of the wrestling scene and that fact was never more evident than the choice of music used in the HBK-Undertaker video package Monday night. I Tweeted (JRsBBQ) about this seconds after I saw it and I will willingly go into a hyperbole-free zone to say it was one of the best vignettes that I can ever remember seeing on a wrestling, TV show. Ever.
If I decide to not write an autobiography, I think I might consider writing about the famous, ringside, "Sign Guy." This super fan shows up at the damnedest times with some of the most creative signs imaginable. He's even been to J.R.'s Family BBQ in Norman and if I'm there Monday and he comes in then his groceries are on me. Maybe I can bribe him to make a nice "JR" sign for the OKC event next Monday night. "Sign Guy" even has his own recognizable outfit and always wears the blue shirt and bright red cap.
Perhaps if I ever take a "healthy" sabbatical from the biz, I can just travel around to wrestling events with "Sign Guy" to do "research" for the aforementioned book. "Sign Guy" is a reality show waiting to happen.
"The Legend of Sign Guy...the Novel."
Sorry to hear of the firestorm that my pal Ric Flair found himself in Sunday night. "Naitch" and I have been friends for over a quarter of a century and I choose to remain steadfastly behind him. We don't know all the details of this unfortunate matter nor do we need to know all the details. What we all should do is to hope that this matter is resolved to everyone's happiness and all involved parties can proceed with their lives.
Same goes, in this space, for the Tiger Woods' controversy. I'm over it.
The Q&A Section of the site has been updated for your reading pleasure. I updated them all after returning from my regular trip to the gym Monday evening.
Congrats to Wendi Richter for her HOF announcement. If my memory serves me correctly, as a young lady Wendi lived in Louisiana and was a big time Mid South Wrestling fan. As the story goes, or so I've been told, she approached Mid South's Grizzly Smith about breaking into the biz as a teen and he encouraged her to finish her formal education before Wendi finally went to train with Lillian (The Fabulous Moolah) Ellison in South Carolina. Nonetheless I'm happy for Wendi and was pleasantly surprised when her named was called.
I think I may need a Twitter intervention. It's just too damned easy to do especially when one's mind is racing in a multitude of directions. Follow my escapades at http://twitter.com/JRsBBQ.
UFC's Frank Mir made some alarmingly strong and controversial comments on the popular, Mark Madden radio show in Pittsburgh recently about wanting to see Brock Lesnar "die inside the Octagon" seemingly and preferably at Mir's hands. Frank Mir is a badass who is a driven man but he may want to start thinking before he begins talking. I think Mir is a compelling, sports figure who is obviously obsessed with mangling Brock Lesnar but it's not Brock Lesnar that Mir is fighting soon. Paging Shane Carwin.
I actually like the "interim heavyweight champion" tag that will be awarded the winner of the upcoming Mir-Carwin UFC because the winner faces Lesnar, hopefully, later this year in a "champion vs. champion" bout. Carwin could throw a wrench into the plan by knocking Mir cold in New Jersey but if the talkative and combative Mir does win then Mir vs. Lesnar will likely do 1M PPV buys. That's some "serious money."
UFC will be well served to get as much of Mir talking for their upcoming build to the Carwin fight as possible because Mir sells tickets with his mouth. In the wrestling world, we would have Lesnar advertised to be sitting at ringside for the Mir-Carwin fight but UFC wouldn't create such a potentially volatile scenario, would they??
Some MMA types are saying that they feel that Cain Velásquez has "no personality." I disagree and feel that it is the TV producer's responsibility to mine the proper and organic sound bytes out of the undefeated heavyweight and to make him into a star. The young man is a stallion and I wouldn't care if he stuttered like Mel Tillis if he continues to fight like he has and he continues to speak from his heart.
The Provence of Ontario in Canada is a beautiful part of the world but some of their politicians apparently aren't Mensa Members. Obviously, Ontario has many priorities to address just as any municipality but clearing the way for MMA in Toronto shouldn't take an act of monumental, political proportions. I would suggest that a UFC PPV would likely sell out the Rogers Centre which has been the home of two Wrestlemanias. That brings money to the community and makes the folks that live there happy. Who loses on that arrangement?

Hey J.R.
watching CWF with Gordon Solie I hope in your off time your having Fun and watching some of your great Work too.
Hopefully, The FAMOUS WWE FAN GIMMICK " SIGN GUY " will one day be inducted into the WWE HALL OF FAME .
Other famous WWE UNIVERSE FAN GIMMICKS include - the recently popular " ORANGE and GREEN SIGN GUY " , JILL the " WWE SIGN GIRL " , SUIT GUY , REFEREE GUY , NIKKI HEYMAN , and of course the " TYE DYE GUY ".
The " TYE DYE GUY " is the most Prolific Fan Gimmick in Televised Wrestling History -having attended 100's of Live WWE/ ECW/ WCW/ TNA and RING of HONOR shows since his Debut in 1994 in the Original ECW- home of FAMOUS FAN GIMMICK "STRAW HAT GUY ".
I also loved the HBK-Undertaker video from Monday night. I've been a life-long Shawn Michaels fan, first and middle name are the same. 1988-AWA. I started following him,in large part, because of the name. All that aside, even though it will be great to see this rematch, my question is " How can they possibly top what they did at last years Mania"? I didn't think they could do better then the Hell In A Cell Match in 1997, but they did! Now the bar is set so high, I'm not sure how much more they can possibly do? But it'll be fun to watch.
Mir is nuts! I don't think he learned his lesten from the last time he got Brock all worked up. I would like to see Brock have a tune up before a possible Mir-Lesnar 3, cause its somewhat of a disadvantage since having to overcome a serious illness and try to get back into fighting shape. Whenever they do hook it up, there is sure to be some hatred and a hell of a lot of bad intentions.
JR, I have to agree with some of these guys regarding Michael Cole. Monday night on Raw, he was kind of dissing The Miz, and then on Tuesday, he was all about The Miz... I'm just saying.
Hello JR, Random Thoughts of my own...
Just saw NXT, so far ok. Doesn't look like CM Punk wants to be there, and my previous statement regarding Miz and Danielson (I will NEVER call him Daniel Bryan) still holds. In a way Miz looking to give Bryan some personality, reminds me of Head Cheese but without the funny parts. I wasn't pleased with Michael Coles statements about Bryan and the indies. Granted, every promotion that's ever existed has called itself the best (as they should), and in the WWEs case that is largely true. But Coles ranting implication that Bryans experience in the indies, that including ROH and Japan, was little better than backyard kid games, was just poor form on his part. By the way, I LIKED David Otunga, he has some serious future ahead of him. Personal opinion: don't bring Jennifer Hudson into it. Otunga has more than enough to make it on his own, he doesn't need to use Jennifers fame. Public knowledge that the two are engaged or married is fine, but don't make her part of the act.
Sorry to hear about Flairs marital troubles, again. Naitch is a good guy, but some people just should not get married.
Great to see Wendi Richter getting her due, though I am mildly surprised. Last I heard she had little love for Vince and the WWE (of course that might be internet rumors, I should stop listening to those).
My personal favorite cookbooks, I think you'd get a huge kick out of them, The White Trash Cookbooks vol 1 & 2. Southern cuisine at its finest, I highly recommend them.
JR, I agree with the comment about the vignette showcasing Undertaker and HBK's "feud" and match last year. It was awesome. I think I watched it 4 times on the dvr last night.
I heard that Ric flair had a major backstage bust up with Hogan and flair is history
best memory is the triple h face to face with sign guy. classic classic moment. here is the link....

I went to a house show in Terre Haute, Indiana a few years ago and Sign Guy was there. I could not believe he was actually at a show there of all places. He was about as big of a celeb as the wrestlers. He even got into a verbal dispute with hardcore Holly during the show. I think Holly legit tried to have him thrown out of the building because of the anti-Holly sign he brought. Sign Guy has got to be the Undisputed Ultimate WWE Fan. (Should I have said member of the WWE Universe instead of fan? Eh, fan is quicker to type.)
I feel bad for Ric. Seems like thing are not going well for him. I wish him the best.
