What a week! John Cena is out of action for what may be up to a year. Knowing Cena, it won’t be that long, but one might as well count John out for 8 months or so. It’s also the annual Red River Shootout in Dallas today between Oklahoma and Texas. Notwithstanding, the WWE PPV No Mercy this Sunday in Chicago where a new WWE Champion is certain to be crowned and we have the makings of a hectic and unpredictably exciting week for any one with a pulse.
On the Bar-B-Q front, biz is still rocking, thank goodness and don’t think we don’t count our blessings, and our autographed cookbook offer is doing super and we are doing a superb job of getting all your orders shipped quicker than a hiccup. Please visit our on line store before you leave us on this visit and place your orders today and we will have them in your hands sooner than later, I promise you.
Bar-B-Qed Feedback Time:
Scott- ECW’s Mike Knox looks to be a fundamentally sound athlete. I have no idea what how his personality will evolve, but that will be a key to his success long term. Knox has physical abilities but that is not the total package, especially in an era long on sizzle.
Mike- The most fun thing I did while working in the WWE front office was seeing young talents sign WWE contracts and going on to live their dreams and become successful wrestlers. The saddest thing was seeing individuals with wonderful potential and God given skills blow their opportunities, usually because of poor judgment and immaturity. (more…)
Thanks for stopping by and checking out our website. Many of you are becoming regulars which we appreciate and I hope you will tell a friend about our ever growing site and our line of products.
Over the next several weeks this site will be undergoing many positive changes which are exciting for all involved. After our “J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant” opens on Wednesday July 11, this site will add more areas of interest that I hope you will all enjoy.
This was a busy week at our Bar-B-Q place as the kitchen staff was busy making all the items from our menu. We had friends in to order from the menu and then have the cooks make the meals to check for food quality, presentation, and timeliness of getting the food to the guests. I equate these days, prior to the restaurant opening, to football two-a-days as we prepare for our first “official game” on July 11. All is really going well thus far in our preparation. We have installed 8 big, flat screen TVs plus all the booths and tables are in place and it looks like we will be able to seat between 130-140 people comfortably. Our smoker is the size that can smoke 140 slabs of ribs at one time plus the brisket, pulled pork, hot links, chicken, turkey, and the old red neck standby, smoked bologna that we will be smoking on the premises.
Soon we will have photos of our place here on the site for you to take a peek at and we are also planning on doing a virtual tour of the place after it opens. (more…)
Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2007 brings each of you great health and happiness.
Here we go as I attempt to address some of your emails.
After broadcasting Raw in Miami on Monday night and getting back to my hotel room, where I celebrated a low key, New Year’s Eve with room service, a diet Pepsi, and cable TV, I got back to the hotel and caught the 4th quarter and the overtime of the Oklahoma loss to Boise State in what many people are saying was one of the greatest college football bowl games ever televised. My congratulations go out to the Boise State team for a great effort and finishing a magical year at 13-0. Heart and effort go a long way in determining one’s success in life and the Bronco’s desire to win the Fiesta Bowl is a testament to that philosophy. Of course I am somewhat heartbroken my Sooners couldn’t pull this one out but I am not a fair weather fan and will be anxiously awaiting the 2007 season for OU which will be highlighted by a home, non league game with the Miami Hurricane in September. Miami has a magnificent football tradition and this game will no doubt get national coverage early in the season in a “must win” game most likely for both squads. (more…)
I will be addressing several of your emails about a variety of questions and topics in this particular blog. Hopefully, you all understand that I do my utmost best to keep the material here current but there is no physical way I can answer each and every one of your emails. Don’t take it personally. I want this to be a fun site and not one where we try to “change the wrestling world”. I certainly hope that many of you more passionate fans have as much passion in your everyday lives as you seem to have when talking about specific wrestling topics. If so, I applaud you. (more…)
Thanks for all the great feedback. I will answer as many emails as possible this week and will have another group answered this week prior to leaving for Kansas City for the Oklahoma-Nebraska Big 12 Title game which is this Saturday night on ABC-TV. (more…)
Former Oklahoma Sooners and now members of the Baltimore Ravens Mark Clayton, Kelly Gregg, and Chris Chester joined 15 of their NFL teammates on the front row at the WWE’s Monday Night RAW broadcast from Baltimore’s First Mariner Arena. (more…)
The Oklahoma Sooners, still clinging to an outside chance of earning a BCS Bowl Game this season, did not play their best football of the season but played well enough to defeat the Baylor Bears in Waco 36-10 to run the OU record to 9-2.
This was an ambitious car trip for yours truly as Waco is approximately a 5 hour drive south of Norman right down I-35. I drove down Friday and picked up former Sooner football star and the MVP of the 1981 Orange Bowl Bud Hebert in Dallas and we stayed at the OU team hotel Friday night in Waco. (more…)
Steve Austin enjoyed three days of Oklahoma hospitality last week in Norman at our humble abode that was highlighted by attending the Oklahoma Sooners Big 12 win over Texas Tech Saturday night.
Steve arrived Thursday evening after flying in from New York City where Wednesday night he and many WWE executives screened Austin’s new film “The Condemned” that will be released on April 27, 2007. For those keeping score at home, Wrestlemania is April 1, 2007 at Ford Field in Detroit. April 2007 is a huge month for the WWE and one would assume that Austin will have a still undetermined role at Wrestlemania in Detroit. (Duh) (more…)
This is going to be a busy weekend around the Ross household.
My wife Jan and I will be enjoying the company of a close, old friend by the name of Steve Austin in our home and we will be taking the Texas Rattlesnake to the OU-Texas Tech college football game this Saturday night in Norman. My good friend Toby Keith is providing us tickets in his suite for the event which is greatly appreciated. OU, like many stadiums, does not sell cold beer to the fans but alcohol is permitted for the suite holders. That means football, cold beer and BBQ is on the agenda this Saturday in Norman. That’s not a bad deal wouldn’t you agree? (more…)
Let’s Rock:
Dustin- Indeed the Sooners are playing well. Another trip to the Holiday Bowl wouldn’t offend me and a rematch with Oregon might be sweet. I would rather sit outside in San Diego that time of the year than Dallas even though I love Big D and can easily drive down to the Cotton Bowl.
T. Adams- I have followed Boise State and their blue carpet since Dan Hawkins turned the program around. I hope Boise State gets the credit they deserve but I don’t think they will due to their schedule. Ian Johnson is one helluva running back but will he get the time of day from the eastern sportswriters? Bronko Nagurski was a freak of nature. An All Pro running back in the NFL and the NWA Wrestling champion too. Not bad work if one can get it.
Jimmy Garner-Coach Bob Stoops has plenty of guts as evidenced by his 4th and inches gamble on his own 29 against A&M. Something tells me my friend Bob has a few more tricks up his sleeve that we might see before this season is over. (more…)
