Start ShoppingThe late Dick Murdoch left us too soon at only 49 years of age. The "Fabulous Texan from Waxahachie" as announcer Boyd Pierce used to call him was one of the greatest in ring performers I have seen in over 30 years in the wrestling biz when Dickie wanted to be. Murd was a true redneck who loved country music, cold beer and Texas Longhorn football. The story on Murdoch was that he played football at West Texas State but on further review Dickie never even went to school there but did manipulate his way into an alumni-varsity game once. Murdoch and Dusty Rhodes were one of the best tag teams of their era when they were working for Verne Gagne in the AWA before both went their separate ways in individual careers. I never knew what Dickie was going to say on our interviews together or when he would simply stop by the announce table as is shown here. Murdochís remarks often times infuriated the Boss, Cowboy Bill Watts, but Watts usually let it slide with only a mild cussing at Dickie because Murdoch sold tickets. I miss Captain Redneck.
