J.R. and Tony Schiavone reporting from Tokyo.

Here I am with my former broadcast colleague Tony Schiavone on our first trip to Tokyo back in the mid 80ís. WCW did a co-venture with New Japan Wrestling and had a packed house at the Tokyo Dome for the live event. Ric Flair was the NWA Champion then and lost in a controversial title match to Tatsumi Fujanami. The match was a great one up until the conclusion. We had a great time on our maiden voyage and were treated royally by the New Japan management. Our "sponsor" was missing a digit and had a few well placed and telling tattoos which meant he may have been a member of, let's say, the Japanese version of the Sopranos. Nonetheless we were treated wonderfully enjoyed great food and entertainment. It was a fun trip to say the least and attending the event in the packed Tokyo Dome was a thrill. Perhaps WWE 24/7 will re-broadcast that event some day. I hope so as I don"t have a tape of it. Contrary to the popular believe I never disliked Tony but we were both put into tough positions by TBS management with unnecessary competition to see who would host the Saturday night show on the SuperStation. Tony was an excellent announcer and from what I hear is working in radio in Atlanta and still living in Cobb County. I wish him and his family well.

Wasn't that in March of 1991? I think WWE 24/7 just played that event early this month.
