Yours truly is standing center with a wrestler-like grimace on my face.

This photo was taken by my pal and fellow umpire Matt Fairchild in 1976 while we were attending Bill Kinnamon’s Major League Umpire School in St. Pete, Florida. My friend Tony Gisondi, my paisan from New Jersey is standing at the left and yours truly is standing center with a wrestler-like grimace on my face. I can’t tell you what possessed me that day to make that face other than just being a little crazy but you already knew that. The gentleman seated is the best umpire in the major leagues today as voted by the MLB players, Tim McClelland, who is a graduate of Michigan State and lives in Des Moines, Iowa. Tim is a 6’6” arbiter who gained notoriety fast when he was the umpire that called George Brett out on the infamous “pine tar” bat controversy many moons ago that has been replayed countless times on ESPN, etc over the years. Tim is a crew chief who started out in the American League. Tony Gisondi has gone on to become of the top umpires in all of college baseball if not the best. I can’t ID the fellow standing at the right of the photo. That’s my bad. Perhaps someone will be able to help me.
