Hello J.R. hope all is well with you and the family. I'm from cleveland which of course means I'm a Browns fan. Things have been beyond rough since we came back into the league and it seems like we are always "rebuilding". Sadly the Pittsburgh rivalry is sizzling out since they destroy us every time we meet.Do you see the Browns becoming a competitive team within the next few years under Mangini?
The Browns seem snake bite but one would have to think that they will get in the hunt some day. I'm not sold on Mangini but who knows?
JR-College football question. Big Arizona State fan. Grew up there and got lots of hand me down ticket from an aging grandfather who couldn't make many games as he got older but always bought season tickets to support the team. Needless to say we haven't had much to cheer about for a decade or so. Dennis Ericson is in his 3rd year as head coach and it seems like if the team is going to turn the corner it should be this year or next. He has had two years to get his recruits in and let them learn the system. There will be a new QB as Rudy Carpenter is gone now. Wondering if you have followed Ericsons career at all and have any opinion on him. Or just an opinion on how a college football team should progress in the first five years of a new coach. Go Devils!!!
I know that Ericson is highly thought of in the CFB world by his peers. The Rock played for Ericson at Miami and always talked highly of him. I know he had a DUI or two but that's life nor does it make him a bad guy. I am personal friends with Mike Stoops at Arizona so I am always going to lean with my friends so I don't wish ASU ill but I'm pulling for 'Zona.
Hey JR, looking forward to the next WWE show in Maine! Was wondering what's your thoughts on Sam Bradford and what you except from him and the Sooners next season.
We play to win Big 12 Titles and National Titles every year. Those goals never change. OU has won 3 Big 12 Titles in a row which is unprecedented. We can't quite get over the hump in those BCS Title Games but we are at least in the game playing for the big one. I know Sam well and he is much more concerned about team goals than individual ones. Sam is a virtual straight A student in economics who enjoys our smoked turkey.
J.R., I have a combination football/WWE question for you. First, if I read correctly, the Red River Rivalry, after 2010, will take place in the new Cowboys stadium instead of the Cotton Bowl. Are you in favor of or against this change? Second, do you think the new Cowboys stadium would be a good spot for a future WrestleMania? It would destroy the WM3 attendance record by a mile.
The OU-Texas game isn't moving to the Cowboys' Stadium in 2010 and I am NOT for moving the game and affecting tradition by leaving the 92,000 seat Cotton Bowl. However I did recommend that the new Cowboys Stadium wold be great for a future Wrestlemania and if the city of Dallas can make the right offer I think it could easily happen.
J.R., Who surprised you more with his decision to return for another season: Bradford, McCoy, or Tebow?
Sam because he was projected to go #1 in the draft and is more NFL ready than the other two great players.
J.R., With Bradford, McCoy, AND Tebow all coming back for another year, this college football season could be one of the most memorable ever. It is certainly one of the most anticipated in recent memory. What are your thoughts?
First that every one of the players you mentioned stays healthy. Secondly, I would like to see OU get another shot at UF for the National Title. OU vs. Texas in October is more massive than ever this year.
I see you said you follow teams with former Sooners. What about follow the Atlanta Falcons with Curtis Lofton who also was a former Sooner Linebacker?
I keep an eye on the Falcons especially with Curtis playing linebacker for them. I've known Curtis Lofton since he was a high school senior at Kingfisher, Oklahoma High School. He's a "football player." A throwback to another era ala Butkus, etc.
J.R., Quick question from the Volunteer State: How do you think the University of Tennessee will fare against other SEC powerhouse teams in the upcoming season with the addition of Lane and Monte Kiffin?
Recruiting is the key. Monte Kiffin is a defensive genius but he has to have the horses to win the SEC. You'll know in 2-4 years.
J.R. - I just posted thi question on your blog and then realized you had this Q&A section. I respect your opinions on football, and wanted to get your opinion on Nic Harris. I'm a Buffalo Bills fan, and Harris was drafted yesterday to apparently fill a LB role with the team. I know you've seen far more Sooner games than I have, so I was curious as to your opinion on Harris as a player and regarding this proposed transition to LB. Nic is a great citizen and should be able to move up and become a linebacker without too many difficulties. Nic is a smart kid who rose from a challenging upbringing to getting a shot at the NFL. He's big, 6'3"-235, can run and likes contact.
In keeping with somewhat unique names (Bubby, Bam, Fuamatu-Ma'afala) The Steelers drafted Ziggy Hood, a DT from Mizzou as their first round pick. I was wondering if you know anything about this young man and how he might contribute to the Steelers defense in the future? He Finished the Combine near the top of nearly every category for a defensive tackle and looks like an elite talent on paper. Some say all the hype could lead to disappointment?
Hood played at Mizzou and was an excellent DT who I saw play in person several times. He's a tough, active down lineman. 6-Burg did well in getting Ziggy.
