Greetings JR I'm a fan of the Washington Redskins. The team's nickname "Redskins" is considered to be offensive by many, including a significant number of Native Americans. Some opinion polls, however, suggest that even a majority of Native Americans do not object to the use of the nickname "Redskins". I believe that the nickname was originally selected for the team because of the inspirational value of courageous "Redskin" Indian warriors in battle, not because of some desire to offend anyone. Do you think the "Redskins" should change their nickname?
I am a native American, Cherokee, and I have no issue with this matter whatsoever. The intent of any mascot name is for it to honor their teams not make light of them. That's just an individual take on it.
Hi JR!!! Just thought I'd send you a quick email before you head off to London for SD & any Superstars matches, which by the way, was a great show to watch. Always like seeing Shane go coast to coast. Two questions for this week: 1. Did you get a chance to view the ESPN E60 show and what did you think of the story on the WWE, Vince McMahon and how it was all done? I think they did a great job, especially seeing the production meeting!! 2. I heard you went to the Sooners' spring game last week. How does the team look going into the fall season and were you on the sidelines? Look forward to the season. I know the Gators & Crimson Tide have their games today. I thought that ESPN did a nice job and to maintain their journalistic integrity waited until after Wrestlemania to air the piece. They certainly gained unprecedented access. The Sooners football team will be tough and if they can avoid the injury bug should be in the thick of things again for a National Title. Their schedule is tough but their defense is much improved and with QB Sam Bradford back OU's offense will be explosive if the O-Line can jell early.
JR, It is official, Ken Stabler is no longer the color commentary guy for the University of Alabama. Theoretically, Mal Moore calls, and the job is yours if you want it. It pays well, but the perks are outrageous. Would you take it? (Regardless, I nominated you, for what its worth, which is close to nothing). And if OU can hang, you may get to call this years NCS game, since its a pretty good bet Bama will be there. Interested???
If Alabama calls I would definitely listen but I won't hold my breath. I still remain hopeful that some day Oklahoma will call and give me a shot in their radio booth.
Hey J.R., How surprised were you on this past football season? So many dominating colleges didn't do so well LSU, Tennessee, and others. Compared to the smaller schools who rely mostly on in state recruits that did turn a lot of heads, like Arizona, Ole Miss, South Carolina. Did you find yourself cheering for the underdog more this past year?
I cheer for the same college teams every year which is Oklahoma and who ever is playing Texas.
What do you think about the Sam bradford situation with winning the Heisman? Do you agree with him staying in school or would have you liked to see him go on to the NFL? Thnx -Parker
Knowing Sam I do know that he likes school, values his education and that he wants to get bigger and stronger before he ventures into the NFL which will likely be next spring. I will tell you that if I had a son I would want him to have Sam's character and integrity.
OSU Football question. James Laurinaitis obviously made a huge mark in College pig skin. Being both his dad and uncle have connection to the wrestling biz would you be surprise to see him enter the ring some day if his football career didn't pan out? (Which from the looks of things, isn't gonna happen.) But I haven't heard much about him anymore NFL or even NHL (he was pretty good at hockey too)
I think that James will have a long, productive NFL career but then a stint in WWE would not shock me at all.
Hey JR. I've been a long time fan of your commentary and I just wanted to ask you a football question. How do you see your Sooners this year taking on my Canes in Miami this year? I'm as much a Canes fan as you are a Sooner and I have to say with this up and coming Miami team anything is possible. I expect it to be a slobberknocker of sorts and I would just like to get your opinion on the match up? The way I see it, with Miami having their first 4 games as their toughest ones all season, I believe that they will either win them all or lose them all and there will be no in between. Goooooooooooo Canessssssss!!!!
It will be a much more competitive game than when Miami visited OU a couple of years ago. The Sooners should be good as they return several key players especially on defense. It's always hard to beat a good team on the road so I expect OU vs. Miami to be a close game.
Hey J.R.: any thoughts of Texas this year is Sam going to have a great sack's of WR's so he can throw the ball to them look at Texas Tech they look like their going to be down and Texas will not be that great where is the Red River game being play this year? and Good Luck to OU!
Texas is going to be loaded with Colt McCoy returning and the OU-Texas game is always played on the second Saturday in October in the Cotton Bowl. OU's receivers will be just fine as will their re-tooled offensive line. It should be a great year to be a Sooner fan.
Mr. Ross, I am a die Sooner fan as you are and my question to you is this, If the KING, Barry Switzer was a pro wrestler, what wrestling character would he most likely be and why? I have watched you since the Mid-South days and really have enjoyed your work and I appreciate your loyalty to our Sooners. Any plans to open a restaurant in the North OKC area? I think Coach Switzer would have been a cross between Stone Cold and the Nature Boy. We definitely plan on expanding and want to get throughout the OKC metro when the economy stabilizes somewhat and when we find the right, small location for a true BBQ "joint." How about those Sooners against Syracuse?!
