J.R.'s Latest Q&A

Hi again Jim. First off, just thought I would let you know that many of the UK fans of your produce have been tweeting and contacting import company @americansoda so that we can get hold of JR's produce much more quickly. They have previously said they are working on it, so let's spread the word! So my question to you is, during the mid to late 90's in WCW, do you think that much of the mid-card talent had the upper hand in wrestling ability as opposed to the "main event" league? Watching my "Best of WCW Nitro" boxset recently, on reflection I was much more entertained by the likes of Malenko/Guerrero/Juventud/Ultimo Dragon etc than watching Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan every week. Thanks for your time, keep up the blogwork.

J.R.'s Answer:

Yes...the main event guys at that time in WCW were more attraction type stars. The best in ring performers were many of the smaller guys. That's not unusual. Thanks for the help w/ @americansoda.

Jr, I'm just curious- when you were in charge of talent relations, did you ever look into possibly bringing in either The Great Muta/Keiji Mutoh or Josh Barnett ? Just surprises me that, given his name value in the US, that WWF/WWE never brought Muta in. Thanks Jim.

J.R.'s Answer:

No o.n neither. Muta had a great deal in Japan and never indicated that he wanted to leave.

During your HOF speech, you told a lot of interesting, and great stories. My question is; what is the most interesting story you can tell us here on your blog?

J.R.'s Answer:

 That's just a little vague....

Hi JR. I've watched WWE since the attitude era and can honestly say that the WWE is no where near as big, heart-stopping and unpredictable as it was back then. In you're opinion what could they do that could possibly propel the WWE back to that level of domination again? I pesonally think that having Smackdown live every week just like Raw would have a massive impact.

J.R.'s Answer:

New stars...it's all about the players.

Do you think that tag-team wrestling will ever be a big part of WWE again? I realise that WWE now is focused on creating big singles stars that are marketable and tagteams are at best a couple of singles wrestlers thrown together for a short run. I just feel like there's so much to be done with tag-teams, stables and managers that it seems criminal to be so focused on singles wrestlers. Secondly, will there ever be another guy like Trevor Murdoch in the upper echelon of WWE? I ask because he reminded me a lot of some of the tough guys in the 80s (Stan Hansen, Dick Murdoch etc) but WWE/Vince's obsessesion with giant muscled wrestlers seems to mean that unless you're supremely talented (Daniel Bryan, Punk, Jericho, Benoit) you're not getting anywhere unless you're a huge guy. I know that WWE is meant to be larger than life but some variety could do them well.

J.R.'s Answer:

It will eventually mean much more in the future than it does now.

Hey JR, With Brodus Clay, Ryback and Lord Tensai all currently undefeated in WWE, Who do you think will suffer a loss first?

J.R.'s Answer:

No clue...win-loss records in wrestling don't usually interest me. It's all about the performance.
