Just wondering since you are close with many of the OU athletes and college athletics in general, what is your feeling on college athletes being paid? Seems to me like the schools make all the money off these kids and the athletes don't see a dime of it.
Scholarship athletes do get a few dollars a month. This isn't a new question and student athletes getting a few more bucks would be nice but they are also getting a free education which is a great thing.
A wrestling news site is reporting that on the UFC 100 Countdown show on SpikeTV, Brock Lesnar stormed off interview because he was pissed off that they kept showing clips of him tapping and he wanted "to kill Steve Mazagatti", he went and punched the wall and forced the door next to the wall to fall off its hinges and break. I have not seen the countdown show, but what do you think of this?
Lesnar is getting into game mode and nothing he does along these lines surprises me. Brock is a highly skilled, highly strung beast who is getting ready to fight another highly skilled human being for a huge sum of cash so emotions are going to be running high. Wait until you hear what Mir says about Lesnar. It's all great hype for Saturday night's UFC 100.
J.R., Question for you not related to any of the categories you have listed. What is your take on the kid in Maine who was not handed his high-school diploma because he blew a kiss to his family as he was walking across the stage? Considering that far worse has happened at high school graduations as well as the fact that this kid was not a troublemaker and worked hard to earn that diploma, school officials overreacted just a little, don't you think? Eager to know your response from a father's perspective.
It sounds like the school over reacted. I feel bad for the student.
Hey J.R. I havent been much of a baseball fan since i stopped playing when I was a Teen. But I have been a big sportcenter fan. My question to you is, Do you think that Tim Lincecum can reach that 300 win club like is team mate Randy Johnson did? I know that the experts say that it will be a long time before we see another 300 win pitcher, but with how young Lincecum is and the promise that he seems to have with being a Cy Young winner last year. I think he just one of those kind of pitchers that you have to watch.
It's gonna be tough for any pitcher just getting started to reach 300 wins with the way pitchers are used and not being able to factor in any arm injuries which seem to be predictable.
Just a quick one, what are your thoughts on the Lesnar-Mir fight at UFC
I am pulling for and predict Lesnar to win but if Mir pulls off the victory I won't be totally shocked. Unpredictability is one thing that makes MMA so intriguing.
Bobby Lashley is fighting a veteran in Don Frye in a few months from now. Though Frye is well in his 40s, he can still fight. How do you see this fight going?
In 2009, I go with Lashley to win it. He's too young and too strong for the veteran Frye to handle at this stage of Don's game.
Hey JR, with that epic classic at WM25 between HBK and Taker, what are your thoughts on when they should retire, because they have both spent their careers with WWE and lets face it they are feeling the effects of 2 decades inside the squared cicle with injuries and fatigue, what are your ideas?
I think that they should be the ones and the only ones to decide when enough is enough. They should take their health and their productivity into consideration when making a decision to retire. I am the last guy to say when Undertaker and Shawn Michaels should hang up their boots. I personally feel that they have great value especially if their schedules are properly managed and that they aren't over exposed. They are both special and should be kept that way.

Not only on screen but with your various duties behind the scenes and especially for the many online stories, commentary, and lessons you impart every week on this site. Your jalapeño mustard sauce is also the best there is. Sorry for the digression. My question is the obvious one for the NBA today. I know you're a lifelong Sooners football fan, but what are your thoughts on former Sooners basketball sensation Blake Griffin who is virtually guaranteed to be the first overall pick in today's NBA draft? With that, what are your thoughts on athletes making the jump to the pros either straight out of high school or before college is over?
Blake is a quality young man who has visited JR's BBQ on more than one occasion. Blake Griffin was the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft but I sure wish he was coming to OKC rather than to the Clippers. I think kids should attend college at least one year before going to the NBA. Preferably longer but at least one year. Certainly not straight out of high school.
Hey J.R.! What do you think about the Cavs acquiring Shaq? Do you think it will be enough?
It makes the Cavs more imposing and Shaq can match up well with Dwight Howard if Shaq can stay healthy and gets himself in race horse shape. I am a huge Shaq fan....LeBron too.
Hello J.R. ! Just saw in your blog that you went to umpire school. Did you ever "get the call" up to the majors ? If not, did you ever get the chance to umpire a game in the minors that had any future MLB stars ?
I umpired plenty of games with MLB'ers in the then Southwest and Big 8 conference not to mention 100's of JUCO games.
