All the men you mentioned were great but any list without a Brisco, a Funk or Danny Hodge will always be incomplete in my book. There is no right answer on this one and it's akin to asking, who is he greatest left handed pitcher ever in MLB? Koufax, Carlton, etc.
Boyd Pierce passed away some time ago. He was a real character and had a great sense of humor and a flair for the dramatic. His attire was always colorful and his claim to fame, as was mine in the early days, was to welcome the fans to the show, intro Cowboy, largely lay out, and tell the fans good bye at the end of the hour. Boyd and I essentially switched places on Mid South TV as time went on. Boyd was a wonderful man who I never heard anyone say a bad thing about him which is rare in the wrestling, or any other, business. I think Boyd resided in Burleson, Texas and was a successful salesman who worked in wrestling because he loved it and not because he needed the extra cash.
I had erased that memory from my mind until you brought it up. Thanks.
I have never adhered to the theory that "creative" causes a potentially great talent to be released. Is there a long list of names that have been released over the years that went elsewhere and became a star that had not already been a main eventer in the WWE? With top talent depth so shallow, I am a firm believer than great talents find a way to get themselves in a position to become a consistent main event wrestler. Every one can "miss" on a talent just as in the NFL, etc but usually the prime time players find a way to put themselves in prime time.
I don't have an updated schedule that goes that far out that would include No Way Out. K.C. is a long time solid wrestling market and I hope to be there in December if/when OU plays in the Big 12 Title Game.
Doubtful on the Cruiserweight Title. I too enjoy watching the younger guys try and make their mark in the business via ECW.
I think a mix of both might be the way to go. I do think that the practicle application of wrestling holds is becoming a lost art as is mat wrestling. Flying around just for the helluva it doesn't trip my trigger as a wrestling fan. The things that will bring old fans back is to get multiple stars hot and invovled in personal issues and the evolution of new wrestlers in the main event mix.
I don't like to travel the day of an event. I like to lay low the night before an event and study the notes that I have made thru the week. If the hotel has it, I order french onion soup from room service as a pre-game sort of ritual. I like to get plenty of sleep before a show and re-write all my notes the morning of the event as I retain the info better much akin to studying for a test. There are a few others but as to not embarass myself too much I will keep them to myself but they might make for an interesting chapter in a book...if I ever do a book.
