Ron Ames being interviewed by Terry Funk as J.R. listens.
The late Ron Ames, who did a mean Barney Fife impersonation, was called into action while Ric Flair was injured during Flairís run with Terry Funk over the NWA Title. With Ric at home in Charlotte, Funk brought the faux Flair to the set for an ìinterviewî with Ames attempting, weakly I might add, to do the patented Flair Whoo which did not sit too well with the Nature Boy or his fans. This was sometime around 88 or 89 and Ric and Terry had a series of amazing matches that I felt privileged to be a part of at the announce table. Ames was a WCW employee at the time working in the marketing department when he was called to duty by the cagey Funk. This interview caused a fair amount of legit controversy around the office but it did the trick at the end of the day in getting fans to dislike the antagonist Funk even more.
