nawalls2133 Asks: I watched the video of you interviewing C.M. Punk and Steve Austin for the WWE 13 video game. Does the interview show legit feelings between the two at the time or was it a work to promote the video game? Were there any plans at that time to setup a match between the two? It had a very real and organic feel to it, which you also saw from both men on TV.
It was simply a vehicle to help sell video games. No 'legit' heat as best that I know much to the chagrin of some hardcores. It was two, great pros doing their buisness.
mvpjoe16 Asks: Question regarding building talent versus utilizing talent. I imagine it's easier said than done, but it seems that we (fans) are in a cycle of seeing everyone not-Roman being used to build other talent, rather than seeing talent elevated and performing "on top". I'm not a Roman guy, but I get it, and think he has vastly improved over the past couple of years, and on some level, I just want WWE to put the belt on him and let him have a run already. By run, I mean extended time with the belt, or otherwise longer than PPV to PPV. I feel the same with Charlotte, AJ, and a number of others. Run with the horses that are leading the race, so to speak. However, a number of would be top-stars, such as AJ, Becky Lynch, and Finn Balor, are being used more and more to build other talent. Hell, AJ was taking risky bumps to get the Ellsworth angle over not long ago.
Two questions, and I know you can't answer them completely in a line or two. Should we see more "on top" people at this time? How do you make, or hard is the call to make, whether to ride someone for all their worth, or use their worth to push the next guy?
Very involved question with likely a litany of correct answers. Talents who are being pushed have to get on some semblance of a roll, without question. I always looked at it on a case by case basis because most talents are, or should be, different.
This process is all a matter of timing and instincts but will always be subjective no matter who is calling the shots and what talent's are involved.
mvpjoe16 Asks: Listening to this week's podcast, you seem a little miffed at fan's dissatisfaction with the finishes at Battleground. I've never been a "my guy must win" type of fan. However, I was upset that one of the best in the world, and a nearly 20 year vet, whose merch I happen to be wearing at this moment, AJ Styles, apparently didn't realize he was pinning himself.
That's not much of a question, so here goes. Chris Jericho returned "outta nowhere" this week on Smackdown to confront KO, and ultimately to participate in a pretty good 3-way match for the US title. With your backstage savvy, do you think the awkward Battleground finish of the Owens/Styles match was for Jericho's return, or is it possible that Jericho's return was arranged to cover for Sunday's awkward finish?
I'm guessing Jericho's return was planned long before BattleGround.
Ryan4494 Asks: Hey JR, hope all is well. I was looking for something to watch on the WWE Network after the the gym today and decided to check out The Clash Of Champions #9 in Troy, NY. Glad I chose it because it was an amazing card and your broadcasting was great all night alongside Gordon Solie. The Co-Main Event of Lex Luger and Brian Pillman was great and the Ric Flair vs Terry Funk I Quit Match was excellent. I was wondering if you have any good memories of that night and what your thoughts on it now are looking back. Thank you and have a great day.
Traveling to upstate NY for one and working with the great, Gordon Solie was my most prominent memory. It was a dream come true for me.
Ahmed Chowdhury Asks: If a wrestler or wrestlers has the sudden urge to use the bathroom, or to drink water during their match, how would they handle that situation, although they are in their character, and they are having a match? Thanks.
Hmm..really? They hold it.
Ahmed Chowdhury Asks: ESPN is reporting about Football and brain injuries. My question is, how do you prevent brain injuries while someone is playing Football? I think helmet to helmet hit needs to be prevented, and make the game as safe as possible. Thanks.
Rules, equipment, and enhanced training will help but not prevent these CTE issues completely. Risky business.
MitchB Asks: JR,
What are the chances of wrestling and Sooner legend, Wahoo McDaniel being inducted into the WWE HOF? Surely his career has warranted the nod.
Likely a long shot.
punkedemo Asks: Hi JR, what do you think of Naomi's personalised women's title, and personalised titles in general?
Sending you best wishes from the UK
Love Naomi's athleticism and her steady improvement. I have not invested any time in her title belt or anyone else's for that matter. Sorry
Hotty Toddy Asks: I really love the concept of the G1 tournament. I first watched it last year and I did my first bracket this year. It's like wrestling's March Madness which is pretty cool. What do you think about the whole concept when you first heard about it? Did you know about this tournament before you became close to NJPW?
Because booking is usually the number one culprit of rasslin critics, the tournament is episodic in nature and the scoring system is relatable as in any main stream sport.
jakefromstatefarm_116 Asks: How confident are you in Lincoln Riley as head coach for OU? He was great as an offensive coordinator without a doubt.
Lincoln Riley is going to be a great, head coach at OU! Guaranteed.
